I agree with you that Unix was a target;  Novell Netware just got in the
way. ;-)
Microsoft is going after the huge systems with cross-platform
compatibility (see HAL, and the versions available for MIPS, PPC, Alpha)
but Netware has always been designed to operate on the "x86" series of
processors.
