SB> MS> The modern incarnations of this Lucas statement started around
SB> MS> the time the original versions of the THX VHS videos were released.

SB> MS> believe it was in one of the new forwards of the re-released
SB> MS> novelizations, with the new covers. He, and various Lucasfilm
ources
SB> MS> have gone on record many times since then, stating that the current
SB> MS> plans (which probably won't change) are for 6 episodes total.

SB>Yeah, I guess that makes sense. Whenever I heard talk of three more
fter
SB>Episodes 4-6, it was sorta sounded like someone was passing on a rumor
than
SB>delivering facts. Why do you suppose he changed his mind, though? I
think
SB>he realized that there would be alot of ticked off fans who have spent
SB>unimaginable amounts of time and money on the books that come after, and,
 SB>if
SB>what I heard said was true, the final 3 episodes would have completley
SB>contradicted these books, ie. the Truce at Bakura, would have never
 SB>happened,
SB>Leia and Han's kids were gonna be different, which would throw off EVERY
 SB>book
SB>written thus far. What's your opinion?
JD> Hey, now Hold On, guys, Hold On... You're building Star Destroyers
JD> from Jawa junk here... This is All speculation and can change at the
JD> drop of a restraining bolt... I've always heard it as GL saying he
JD> wanted 9 films total (or 3 trilogies of 3)... Naturally he'll take this
JD> One step at a time and by that meaning he'll do the first 3 films and
JD> see how they come out... With 6 films in the bank Then he'd probably
JD> take on the final 3 if there's a demand for them and if the 6 films tie
 JD> together...
JD> Throw off Every book? How so? Listen... Do you think it's something of
JD> just a coincidence that the novels strentch into the future of the
JD> films by only a couple decades? They cutoff Before 30 years if I'm not
JD> mistaken... Now let's put 2 and 2 together now shall we? Assuming all
JD> goes well, the three prequels will be out in the early 2000s...
JD> Production will then start on the remaining three episodes (in
JD> theory)... Each trilogy of 3 films is set Rougly a generation apart...
JD> The last three will therefore be some 25 years after the middle
JD> trilogy which, coincidentally I think Not, is 25 years in Real Time for
JD> the original Star Wars actors... Should they reprise their roles they
JD> will be playing their characters at their true, real life, ages... And
JD> assuming the timeline isn't moved up for the novels, Episodes 7, 8,
JD> and 9 will chronologically come After the novel series...
JD> I think this is a Great idea (I hope I'm right!)... Logically you see,
JD> the last three films in the third trilogy will Merge and Unify the
JD> characters and events presented in the first two trilogies... So some
JD> New characters introduced in the first couple movies could conceivably
JD> meet up with our classic characters in these final films...
Yes, good point, but, GL stated that he did not even consider the books as
part
of his story. He was going to continue the story but with different ideas.
Didn't he say that he planed to have Han and Leia have twins, but they would
not be Jacen and Jaina? I beleive I read that in the Insider. Just beacuse
there is a 25 year gap in between the first 2 trilogies, does't mean that the
... I am NOT Paranoid. Now get away from me!
