You were told correctly.  IntraNetware uses Netware v4.11 as its core
"OS",  and supports TCP/IP out of the box.  In the past one had to
purchase "Netware/IP" in order to use the IP protocol on their Novell
Netware Network.

I wasn't familiar with support for OS/2,  but the DOS partition (the
small one that it is) is just enough to boot the system,  change to the
\SERVER directory,  and start the Novell OS.  Once SERVER is loaded,
you won't be using DOS (or OS/2 for that matter) anymore.
