I've been using HPT with Squish message bases for the past 15+ years.

There are some situations in Linux/BSD where a Squish base get corrupted
when two programs (eg. HPT and something else) write to the same
messagebase at the same time.

Squish is ordinarily very reliable.

This sounds more like filesystem corruption to me.

PK> x.sql files were of insigifcant differences

.sql files aren't used by HPT afaik. Just the message reader software.

JAM is just different. I prefer Squish.

*.MSG is another option, though access gets slower as your messagebase gets
larger. Perhaps not noticably. Unlike the DOS days, lots of small files
aren't such a problem on modern OSes.
