Replying to a message of Jim White to Carol Shenkenberger: JW> One time we heard the rock hit the floor and then he started howling JW> in pain. Apparently, the rock slipped out of his mouth and fell. JW> Once we got him isolated and could check it out, we found that it had JW> MISSED his foot, but landed directly on on of his nails, breaking it. JW> NOT lengthwise as you might expect, but crosswise. We gave him an JW> aspirin and vet wrapped it for the night and he was fine. The vet JW> had to numb the toe and cut off the broken nail. She said there was JW> little bleeding and he never complained about it since. Nail has JW> grown back normally. And yes, he still gets into the food bucket if JW> we're not careful and he gets the opportunity! I had a similar occurrence with Sam, except that instead of a rock it was an ordinary concrete block. Sam managed to knock it over and it fell on one of his toes (the *corner* of the block), took the nail completely out. After a couple of trips to the vet because the toe wasn't healing the vet took the whole toe off, Sam now has 3 toes on one of his front feet. --- FleetStreet 1.19+* Origin: Bob's Boneyard, Emerson, Iowa (1:300/3) SEEN-BY: 10/1 3 14/300 34/999 53/558 90/1 106/1 120/228 123/500 134/10 140/1 SEEN-BY: 222/2 226/0 236/150 249/303 261/20 38 100 1381 1404 1406 1410 1418 SEEN-BY: 266/1413 280/1027 320/119 396/45 633/260 267 712/848 800/432 2222/700 SEEN-BY: 2320/100 105 200 2905/0 @PATH: 300/3 14/5 140/1 261/38 633/260 267 |
