I keep a bottle of Windex on the shelf for cleaning the monitor
screen. Ocassionally, I also apply it to my navel so I can see what
I'm doing...

Careful - we had a full scale war on this topic a year or so back and
I think the end result was an armed truce . Were it me, I would
clear off the drive in question and do a low level format - REALLY
start from scratch.
DFSEE is overkill for most uses but when it's needed it's worth the
effort to figured out what it's telling you.
