According to survey information, employers still put a lot of weight on the
CNE certification, even if they don't run NetWare. The reason for this,
according to LAN Times (or Network World, I forget which one), is the
certification demonstrates the ability to learn the technology. In addition,
employers have recognized that Novell's certification program actively
promotes discussion of third-party technology and real world solutions. The
same article reported that some employers prefered CNEs over MCSEs *even in
NT shops* for this reason.
Maybe the CNE's value isn't as great as it once was, but that would only be
because there are so many more of them than there used to be (but still far
less than needs to exist to support the number of installed NW servers).
