-=> Todd Sullivan wrote to VERN HUMPHREY <=- TS> Nope, a "Man's Gun" is a heavy, bear-killing, shoulder-busting .30-06, TS> not TS> a wimpy .308 Win. 150gr military ball has almost identical ballistics between those two calibers, with only about 50 fps difference in mv between a Garand and an M-14. The actual bullets are identical. Commercial ammo is about the same, in that similar bullets (the projectiles) have similar ballistics between the calibers. You can pour more into a .30-06 case, but you reach the point of ineffectivness long before you fill the thing up. High Power & Palma guns shoot .308 quite effectively at 1000 yards with loads typically less than 43 grains of 4895 for 175 or 180gr bullets. .308 is also the caliber of choice for police and military snipers. Yes, I own a .308. :) I have a custom built M1A which I shoot in High Power matches, as well as a good old .30-06 M1 Garand. They're both extremely accurate. ... blueMail --- FMail/386 1.60+* Origin: Washington AK-47 Organization (1:138/179) SEEN-BY: 633/267 270 @PATH: 138/179 255 10/3 106/2000 633/267 |
