Ok, here's some of what's found in my MSGAREA.CTL file:
MsgArea F25 %224
% This is for TECH
ACS Disgrace/F
Desc Fidonet: Computer Technical Conference
Path P:\Max\Msg_FidT\Tech
Origin 1:270/615.0 1:270/615.0 TANSTAAFL BBS 717-432-0764
Tag TECH
Style Squish Echo Pub RealName
End MsgArea
MsgArea F26 %225
% This is for CPMTECH
ACS Disgrace/F
Desc FidoNet: CP/M Technical Echo
Path O:\Max\Msg_FidC\CpmTech
Origin 1:270/615.0 1:270/615.0 TANSTAAFL BBS: Where CP/M is
alive and well!
Tag CPMTECH
Style Squish Echo Pub RealName
End MsgArea
Note the default, in the first area quoted, which shows you how I've put
the bbs phone number in every origin line. The second example wrapped on the
screen here but in the file it's all one line.

This is in my max.ctl file:
% The following keyword specifies the area number in which
% log-off comments should be placed. (This area number also
% applies to the Leave_Comment menu function and the
% [leave_comment] MECCA token.)
Comment Area 1
I don't know where the heck this gets invoked, though...
It works here!
