subject: Dumb Terminals

Evening All
I'm looking to use a dumb terminal (vt420 set to vt100 mode) attached via a
null modem link to the serial port of my PC (running RedHat v5), and also to
the serial port of a mate's machine (running FreeBSD). What I want to know
is - what command do I need to use in order to open this port, and which
options need to be compiled into the kernel(if any)? Both machines are 486s
with VL motherboards except I want to use COM1 for the terminal and my
friend needs to use COM2. I've tried doing a 'man -K terminal' but obviously
there are too many pages to look through ;->>>
Thankyou.
