I was friends with the attendance secretary and was helping the assistant
principal she worked for at the time.
The attendance secretary daily put out an "attendance bulletin" listing
absences (and excuses) by homeroom. You'd see some kids who came in with a
different excuse every day and missed half the days...never for a
see-a-doctor level excuse.
