You were not really listening were you. The PROBLEM, is not power failures, it
is ANY situation that prevents the system from shutting down normally, such
that the CHKDSK that runs upon restart fails to recover the errors on ONE
partition only (the other 4 partitons are all recovered fine).
That power failures are MONTHS apart is irrelevant, there are other reasons
why the system fails to shut down correctly. Regardless of the reason for it,
if the system is NOT shut down "normally", then the HPFS partition ROOT
directory entry cannot be found upon restart!
A UPS will not help to resolve ALL situations that the system does not have a
clean shutdown.
