all that said -- I do recognize that unless you're the very top dog (CEO),
your ability to have open/honest communications are severely limited, so not
sure how much any of that would be useful to you.

I can relate. When I started my job almost four years ago, system theory told
me some things about my company. Management told me in my interview that
there would be constant change and to do my job I had to expect that. That
doesn't mean that local management has complete control over the business.
When I started, there was nearly no structure. Now, there's standards
developing so that the entire company is operating on the same principles.
That's not an easy task, according to system theory. As long as I survive
the standards, I'm going to never get bored.
