subject: FAXES

PS-> Has anyone had any experience with two phone numbers on one line each
PS-> with their own distinctive ring? This set up is designed to give you a
PS-> fax line. The fax machine is suppose to be able to tell the difference
PS-> between its ring and the ring of the other line. Any comments or
PS-> advice?
I am about to set up something identical to what you're talking about
except the second number will route to a fax program instead of a
machine. I picked up a little box called a Ring Director from my local
GTE phone mart/telephone company. While subscribing to distinctive
ringing service (smart ring, etc.), the standard single long ring call
will route to one destination and the second, short, double ring call
will route to the other. I don't have any experience with devices that
claim to sense an incoming fax call as opposed to a standard call or a
call without reverse tone/fax tone so I didn't want to fuss with the
"maybe it'll work" aspect of those devices. Then, if I decide I need
more flexibility, I could always add one of those fax detecting devices
to either of the already dedicated split phone numbers.
