Dominant 7th Chords try Mixolydian or the Lydian Dominant scale
maj7 chords you can just use the major scale.  Min7 just try minor scale.

can also try using some arpeggios, don't play the same arpeggio that the 
hord
under you is playing.  Try the 2 or 3 on up.  
I was referring to the E7#9, I just call it the Hendrix Chord :)  Purple Haze 
chord...You know!
