| subject: | Maximus on Solaris 10 |
RdL> I've been running my Max bbs on Windows 2000 since RdL> 2003 on an old PII450. I'd really like to replace RdL> that computer with a Solaris zone on my solaris server RdL> if Maximus will run on it. Has anyone successfully RdL> gotten Maximus, squish and binkd running on Solaris? I'd personally keep running Maximus on x86 Windows. Maximus v3.01 (DOS) is stable. All the other platforms are bodgey. As long as they keep making VMware work for Windows 2000 I'm happy. RdL> A big part of my BBS is the door games. I think that's RdL> the reason why I have so many people logging in every RdL> day. I remember a while back some of the developers RdL> were saying that getting Maximus to run on linux was RdL> the goal, and there were no plans to support DOS doors RdL> running in DOS EMU. Is that still how things are? If RdL> so, unfortunately I'll have to stick with the Windows RdL> version. Hmm. The whole DOS EMU part may be entirely independent of Maximus. Because Maximus can run doors after being unloaded from memory (eg. via Xtern_Erlvl) it could be reasonably assumed that running doors only require the same process of passing hot com ports/handles/sockets (for DOS/NT/Linux respectively) to DOS EMU - assuming Xtern_Erlvl works the same under Linux as DOS or OS/2. Not sure if Maximus has to be enhanced for this kind of socket handling. I'll ask those Synchronet guys. --- Maximus 3.01* Origin: < - Adelaide, Australia +61-8-8351-7637 (3:800/432) SEEN-BY: 633/267 @PATH: 800/432 633/260 261/38 123/500 379/1 633/267 |
