You may live in areas where heartworm isn't a problem. It is a problem here. Years ago a dog I had developed it (it's passed by mosquitos), he spent a week in the animal hospital while the docs fed him enough poison to kill the heartworm but not enough to kill him. $450. The vet had two hearts (one dog and one cat) in jars of formalin on his secretary's counter, said hearts opened up to show the heartworms inside. My dogs get monthly heartworm prevention treatments, fortunately the vet has given me some stuff that's a LOT cheaper than the monthly pills - it costs about $60 per bottle but one bottle will treat 9 dogs for over a year. The vinegar in the drinking water trick seems to keep fleas and ticks off. --- FleetStreet 1.19+* Origin: Bob's Boneyard, Emerson, Iowa (1:300/3) SEEN-BY: 10/1 3 34/999 53/558 106/1 120/228 123/500 140/1 222/2 226/0 236/150 SEEN-BY: 249/303 250/306 261/20 38 100 1404 1406 1410 1418 266/1413 280/1027 SEEN-BY: 320/119 396/45 633/260 267 712/848 800/432 2222/700 2320/100 105 200 SEEN-BY: 2905/0 @PATH: 300/3 14/5 140/1 261/38 633/260 267 |
