The message from Chris Smith rises higher:
CS> Thus, on 26 Aug 96 at 2:57 AM, that Kenneth Newman said to Stuart
CS> Dubois:
KN> 75 cents. FWIW, the _200
KN> Mohels_ 8 track set me back a used copy of the first Chicago,
KN> _Chicago Transit Authority_ (which is an
KN> excellent album btw which I thoroughly recommend to everyone as a
KN> kind of cross between Soft Machine,
KN> Colosseum, Gentle Giant, If, and a few others, though with an
KN> American accent), on 8 track,
CS> Awesome album! Such diversity and progressiveness. For those of you
CS> familiar
CS> with the hits from this 1969 classic ("Does Anybody Really Know What
CS> Time It Is?", "Beginnings", and "Questions 67 & 68"), this album also
CS> features a most excellent cover of Traffic's "I'm A Man", with Terry
CS> Kath, Peter Cetera, _and_
CS> Robert Lamm doing the lead vocals, alternating verses. Lamm's
CS> performance on B-3 rivals that of Winwood on the original...
It gets more radio play than the original too, which is pretty cool,
'cause it's got that cool instrumental middle section.
_CTA_ is quite a good album, alright. My favorites are, besides the
hits, "South California Purples," "Listen," and "Poem 58." Many of
Chicago's songs were cut-up horribly for single release. You get to
hear the whole songs on this album.
Speaking of Chicago, any word of any remastered CDs coming out for them?
I bought _Chicago II_ about 5 or so years ago on CD and the sound is
quite bad.
