You want to build these big machines out of mass produced cpu'es to keep
the costs down & the life long (spare parts etc). As such 3 choices,
intel64, amd64 & ppc64.

Go Athlon64.....I can see a Mac+ppc64 vs x86PC +amd64 fight developing with
intel sat on the bench.
