I have also wondered about some of those vehicles. Seems to me it is
mostly fro "SHOW". Becasue unlkess one maintains minimum distances for
other methalic objents it can seriously affect reception. In the cae of
Police cars sometimes they have N ochoice. There is only so much
realestate on the top of hte car and Supervisors particualry need multi
radion fro coordination not only between police districts but
interagency also. The 800 mhz trunking systems were supposed to solve
that, Fire/Police/Public Works/etc all on one system, but it is a
Nightmare all of it's own.
