TS> VH> They never did answer the basic question -- how long would it take on
TS> VH> average to match up a fired case or bullet?

TS>If /CSI/ is accurate, there /is/ a national database of cases from crimes,
TS>and it's used to match and trace a weapon in later crimes, but nothing
TS>changes the fact the case has to be entered into the system. And, as I
TS>said earlier, you can obliterate the validity of that entry by replacing
TS>the parts that contact the cartridge.

CSI isn't accurate -- there is no such database. In fact, how to create
such a database is questionable -- what goes in? How do you code?

The best that can be done right now is to enter microphotographs, and to
code by caliber and make of gun (if known.)

TS>Hell, what person /wouldn't/ try to stay "off the screen"?

Well, see, we'll make it against the law to alter a gun's "fingerprint."
That'll fix criminals -- they'd NEVER break a law, you know.
