An HMO generally has a "formulary". They have certain drugs which
the don't cover, or cover to a lesser degree (your out-of-pocket
increases). As an example, the cimetidine might not be covered since there
is an over-the-counter equivalent.

That probably isn't true in this case, for any number of reasons. But I
know of situations where someone was prescribed medicines which were not
covered under the formularies and the individual was out a significant
amount of money for a 30 day supply.
