CB>"Do Single-sex Classes Cheat Girls?"
CB>I'm not sure that there is anything that can be said to convince you
CB>that creating single-sex classes is sexism, for we are just playing
CB>with the words. BUT, the article which I've quoted above should
CB>give you cause to wonder about the impact such classes might have
CB>and why they may not be such a good idea.
Actually I don't think I was saying that creating single-sex classes
couldn't be sexist. I fully accept that notion. I think that I was
arguing that just because a class was single-sex, that wouldn't
necessarily mean it was being sexist. I think it would depend on the
reason for such a class. But in light of the article you presented, I
cannot think of a reason for a single-sex classroom. Thanks for sharing
that. I am not a strong proponent of a single-sex class but I do have
reservations calling them sexist. I don't see the need to dismantle
schools who historically have been all-male or all-female. But this is
the 90's and as the song writer said: "The times they are a changing."
Take care,
Dan Triplett
