Don't quibble. 4.11 has inherent SMP support, plus autorecovery and the
ability to trap a CPU hog.
There is a great chance the server will not crash at all, or if it does, the
crash will be trapped and you will be given time to shut down before the
server autoreboots.
If the problem is as suggested by another in this echo, an NLM that assumes
exclusive use, this CPU hog will be interrupted by the OS and you get
ntrol.
Seems there is a problem with the org. If they really want maximum up time
and SMP, 4.11 is the way to go. As the server is crashing, what have you got
to loose? Except a few bucks perhaps. Others have suggested doing this with
a 5 user copy of Netware 4.11 and seeing what happens. Good idea.
Others have suggested getting Compac and Novell involved. Again, good idea.
Even if it costs, you need help and help may cost money. Worth the money if
you can stop this downtime.
