Installing BackupExec certainly should not conflict with Mercury. There is
an old problem related to Mercury in that some of the lines in AUTOEXEC.NCF
have to be quite long, and they get broken while the file is automatically
edited. This is not specific to BackupExec, but it affects Mercury and other
installs generally. You might want to check carefully to see if AUTOEXEC.NCF
has been corrupted in a way that affects TCPIP or something else critical to
Mercury.
The 97-Mar-11 release of Mercury is available from any Pegasus site, such as:
   ftp://ftp.usm.maine.edu/pub/network/pegasus/merc131.zip
Technical support is available for Mercury at "tech-support@pmail.gen.nz".
