26 Jun 15 23:47, you wrote to me:

KR>>> QWK is a point to point protocol between a BBS and an offline user.

KR> Why don't you call it RIME when you are talking about RIME networking?
KR> ;) I wouldn't call ftn networks squish or jam networking and QWK
KR> networking is same confusing.
RIME and PCRELAY were two separate and different entities...
here's a link to a book on google about PCRELAY...
https://books.google.com/books?id=x2kb8n32nTMC&pg=PT268&lpg=PT268&dq=bbs+RIME+P
CRELAY&source=bl&ots=iWPqY-J7WE&sig=frji3YSxblMNVtbx__Ag4mKjcQc&hl=en&sa=X&ei=t
-KNVe_dA8X5-AGL1IDICA&ved=0CCEQ6AEwAA# v=onepage&q=bbs%20RIME%20PCRELAY&f=false
same as above but shortened... http://tinyurl.com/ngm863g
page 5 is what i was shown...
RIME was "RelayNet (tm) International Message Exchange (RIME) BBS Network"...
http://cd.textfiles.com/hamradio/misc/relaynet/bylaws.txt
PCRelay was one package that was used... there was at least one other but i
don't recall all the details... i just remember that it was known as
RIME/PCRelay for the most part... the actual transfer required additional
software, too... that was a scripted terminal program which, just like a user,
called into the hub bbs, logged in to the qwk account for the calling system,
went to the proper menu and initiated the QWK upload and download of
messages... after the transfer, it logged off just like a user and then the
PCRelay software munched on the QWK bundle and tossed those messages into the
bbs' message areas...

yes...

KR> I don't think so. Golded is no tosser, it can access the message base

like i said, i haven't tried it... it may just be able to read and reply like
multimail, bluewave reader, slmr and others...
KR> Maybe move/copy mails from the QWK files into sqd or jam echoarea is
KR> possible.
maybe :)
ml>>>> so when starting a message reply or original, there's no way to

KR>>> No. There is a way. The random system is just the default auto-fill

i didn't say that but thanks for the twist :)
KR> "No" means no to your "no way". To be clear i said there is a way.
KR> Looks like my english is more worse than i thought. ;)
oh! hahaha... it is all good :)
KR>>> be edited by cursor up too. Some keywords can be used many times,

ml>> too bad that one cannot configure an area to use a specific username
ml>> by default...
KR> That is exactly what you can.
yes, i think it was nick that showed me a config for that...
KR> The random system chooses between two given origin definitions
KR> randomly. What would happen if the is one origin definition only? What
KR> would happen if there is one username definition only?
see? the name "random" just implies some automatic choice using a selector to
choose from more than one option... it just throws me off the scent...
ml>> that would allow for what is being asked for... in areas xyz, i want
ml>> to use this name by default
KR> group xyz
KR> username "this name"
KR> endgroup
right... i saw this now :)
ml>> but in areas pdq i want to use another name...
KR> group pdq
KR> username "another name"
KR> endgroup
KR> would do your wish. xyz and pdq must be exact echotags and be before
KR> other wildcarded echotags. In the random system the first hit counts.
echotags? not groups?? why is it called "group" then? i have my echotags
grouped for similar items... eg: group z is my automatically added areas... it
is at the bottom of the list... group a is my local areas... group b is fidonet
backbone carried areas... i also break out administrative areas into their own
groups... these groups are the same as the groups the tosser uses...
KR>>> Yupp, that's common procedure. The random system of golded just adds
KR>>> some kind of lazyness. ;) Together with templates you could have
KR>>> random mail introduction lines or footers too.
ml>> i understand the random thing but i don't see it as being valid for
ml>> specific uses like the one being asked about ;)
KR> I never thought someone could believe that random names could be a
KR> reasonable feature. :)
KR> Even the AKA keyword in the random system isn't choosen randomly.
KR> Multiple AKAs gives the option for a menu to select one AKA from. I
KR> never tried with usernames but i think it's the same.
ok...
