Hi Everyone,
Well, we had 5 days off over the Memorial Day weekend. We ended up
at Lake Chelan in eastern Washinton, and we took the Lady of the Lake,
(a passenger boat) to the end of the lake to a little town called Stehekin.
This town is as remote as you can get in Washington. The only way to get to
it is by boat (4 hrs), Airplane, or by trail. We stayed at the Lodge
and had a great view of the lake surrounded by rugged snowcapped mountains.
This is a trail riders paradise! We stopped at the Outfitting service
and checked out their horses. All they use are Norwegian Fjords (these are
the first ones I've seen.) They use them for riding and packing in the
mountains and pulling wagons in the valley. They look like little draft
horses and they have the sweetest personalities. The pregnant mares looked
like they were as wide as they were tall. They all seemed to crave attention.
We rode mountain bikes and saw three bears, lots of mule deer, Mt.goats,
and a young cougar that came into town after a house cat.(The cat got away:)
Sunday we went to a TWH Show at the Wash. State Fairgrounds. My niece
took 2nd place in the halter class with her yearling filly!! I like the
looks of the TWH's that are lite shod alot better than those with the
weights on the front feet. They walk just as fast and look alot more
natural to me. The Plantation/Lite Shod Trail Class looked like fun to me.
Maybe with a few more lessons.......
Walker seems to have picked up a bug. His nose is running, and he
sneezes now and then. His appitite is fine, his eyes are ok, he holds his
head normally, but he seems down on energy. I am giving him antibiotics
in his feed and I will talk to the Vet on Tuesday.
Well, fun and games are over and it's back to the coal mine tomorrow:(
