The "avm" item just defines the alternate mode.  You need to use the
VIDEo macro function to activate it.  Put a macro like this in
COMMO.MAC:
  {:af1} {video-m1} {}
This will switch to the alternate mode when you press Alt-F1.
{COMMO} will also adapt to any mode if the mode is in effect when
the program is started.  This allows you to use a batch file to set
the mode and then run {COMMO}.
