-> I am working in a shop that runs 5 servers 7x24x365 and they DON'T
-> want a
-> second of down time on any of them, unscheduled or scheduled...hahaha
-> One server in particular, a Compaq Proliant 4500, smp, 256Meg, 8
-> Gigs, keeps on getting Abends on any NLM that I load that needs to
-> see and manage users or files that the users have open, such as
-> Sqlmon or Brtmon. They will just hang and also cause the console
-> prompt to go away and also during this time the server comes up with
-> a Page Fault from the NCC.NLM in Threads.nlm . Once this happens the
-> only thing I can do is to kill the power and hope for the best when I
-> Vrepair and bring the server back on-line.
Do you have any way of verifying the problem was not caused by the software,
such as running NCC on a different server? You may be having problems with
RAM, and diagnostics don't necessarily catch problems of that nature. Ruling
out all other problems helps determine if RAM is at fault.
Alternatively, you might look into other backup solutions that do not depend
on NCC, such as backup servers (I think Vinca makes one), which makes a
duplicate of the drives, then permits a normal backup without affecting the
use of the live data.
Good luck!
