They don't? http://www.aclu.org/news/pressind.html certainly has the phrase
"filed a lawsuit" in it once or twice... now, if you want to get
specific, the example I'm looking at says, "The Voting Rights Project
of the American Civil Liberties Union today filed a lawsuit..."  That
isn't even one degree of separation in my book.

Or, "The ACLU of West Virginia today filed a federal lawsuit..."

Or, "In a case brought by the American Civil Liberties Union of Ohio..."

There are others.
