You need to be watching the Status window during the first part of the
call, which most people wouldn't bother doing anyway.  I only do so just in
case the call fails to negotiate EC, as very occasionally happens.

Fair enough.  I just thought it might be an easy fix, as it appears that
not enough string space is being allocated for the message.  You possibly
have it truncated to response size (null padded, is that the term?) when it
needs to have enough space allocated to clear the previous message if it's
longer (as it quite often is).  But then what would I know, I'm no
programmer.
