That's true indeed....still a CD-RW is worse.

When it comes down to ROM typed gadgets, compact cards would beat the CD every way.

A simple audio CD could be manufactured in a ROM-chip in a compact card.
A simple CD-R could be written in a PROM (one time burn).

diode matrix (P)ROMs can be small and cheaply manufactured...it would be a
perfect substitute for a CDR...with a longer lifespan too :-)
