Yeah, the cars are definately not dependent on too many electronics, so there
was probably some kid of EPM event, at least. This past week's episode did
get a little more into whatever event it was that decimated the population.
I also wondered about the timing of the event... in the train station scenes,
there have been a couple where there was an older train engine that is not
being used. That design was used on passenger service into the 1970's, but
the design goes back to around the 1939-1945 range. They continued
mass-producing that design through the 1950's but it was not a popular design
for new engines by the 1960's.
Unless it was a static-display or museum of some sort, you would not likely
find those in an abandoned station if an event were to happen today, for
example. Some of the magazines they found at the abandoned holiday park
looked more like those from when I was young (or before) rather than what you
would have seen in the '90's to today.
