Fidonet is mainly mail net, IMHO. The best part of it are echoes. For
Internet it's not so, conferences are small part of its services.

Me - not. I use fidonet for echoes, to listen what people say about
interesting topics. Conferences in Internet are dying, people choose fast
communicating via forums like fast food. There is some charm of letter but
there are only phrases in forums. And forums and mailing lists have no
logical system, it's difficult to find proper forum or list.

Soon will be. Russian Department of Communication wants to pay for phone by time.

Fidonet has traditions and _society_. Internet supports some gatherings and
clubs, but there is no Internet policy! In fact, it is the only choice for
poor people having no internet at work/school. But it has different set of
services than Internet: no web, no irc, no icq.
BTW, you have much less chance to get virus via netmail than by email.
