  That reminds me of a T-shirt I saw on the Amtrak train, heading back
home from a beravement trip after my wife died 15 months ago.

  A young couple, who had a couple of dachshunds (of which breed I'm
still partial to), were seated at the same table I was in the Dining
Car on one segment of the trip. We talked quite a bit about the dogs,
but the thing I remember the most was the T-shirt she had on.

  It showed a FAT dachshund, with his entire body down to the ground,
with the caption:

"Dachshund is on a diet. Please do not feed".

  I thought "what was your first clue??". 

  The dachshund my late wife and I had when we got married had to be
put down in 2005, as the poor thing had become diabetic, insulin resistant,
and he had gone blind. I cried like a baby for 15 minutes after saying
goodbye to Fritz for the last time, but Janice and I knew that it was the
only humane thing to do.

  Three months later, we got a new dachshund, Slinky...but I re-homed him
the day my wife died. They've gotten real restrictive with pets out here,
so unless I get married again (that is highly unlikely, as things look now),
I doubt I'll get another dog.
