In response to my question, "What is a 'gear inch'", you were kind enough
to clear it up thusly:
EW> For any given chainring/sprocket combination,
EW> Gear Inches = chainring diameter / sprocket diameter x wheel diameter
EW> ie: 52/12x27 = 117 gear inches
EW> 42/24x27 = 47 gear inches
EW> 28/32x27 = 24 gear inches
That clears it up for me and I appreciate the help.
