Using that box with XP could be hazardous to your mental health. I'm
using Visual C++ 5.0 running on NT 4 (service pack 6).

ac> Strange. Can you post a short program demonstrating the
ac> problem? And any appropriate compiler/linker arguments
ac> (unless you're using the IDE of your compiler...)

In Windows, there is no such thing as a short demo. program. What I had
constructed was a vanilla, dialog-based program to show the contents of
a linked list. It honestly isn't anything strange or bizarre.

[ start error message ]

FlashCards MFC application [my application] has encountered a problem
and needs to chose. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

We have created an error report that you can send us. We will treat the
report as confidential and anonymous.

[ end error message ]

The error report listed many modules. The top of the list included:
     ntdll.dll
     kernel32.dll
     mfc42d.dll
     msvcrtd.dll

For each module listed, the image size was 00000000 and the file date
was 00000000 00000000. It seems to me that this the ultimate in "Don't
tell them anything useful; just take their money and run".

Do you have any thoughts on what the incompatibility may be?
