RJT> Aw, c'mon, don't keep us in suspense! How fast would you
RJT> have to spin that sucker?
TEŻ Would you believe 9,500 rpm? A 4 ft. cord with the pouch in the
TEŻ middle means a 2 ft. radius and a 12.6 ft circumference. (2 *
TEŻ pi * R) That means you have to spin the sucker at 9,500 rpm to
TEŻ reach 2,000 fps at the end of the cord.
Yep. After I wrote my reply, noticed re-read the message, and
figured that was the answer he was looking for. Thanks for taking
care of it for me...
TEŻ Actually the service load (70 gr. of FF) was closer to 1,200
TEŻ fps. or less, even in the long barreled muskets of the day.
TEŻ That would require *only* 5,730 rpm to duplicate.
True... I was going for the best available velocity at the time,
which would have been one of the Sharps .45 or .50 caliber
breech-loading rifles that were issued to Northern snipers...
A .58 caliber Springfield Model 1963 would have fired a minie bullet
in the 1,200-1,300fps range as you mention...

... At any time, at any place, our snipers can drop you. Have a nice day.
