URGENT LEGISLATIVE ALERT
PASSAGE OF BILL THROUGH SENATE THREATENS THE RIGHTS
OF ALL MASSACHUSETTS FIREARMS OWNERS!
Last week the Senate passed S.148, Sen. Jacques' so-called
"assault weapons" ban through Second and Third Readings in the
middle of the night. The bill now goes to the House with a new
number (Senate 1985) due to the amendment changes. Not only will
S.1985 ban laser sights, large capacity magazines, and the
inheritance of certain firearms, BUT IT WILL ALSO BAN MOST
SEMI-AUTOMATIC FIREARMS MANUFACTURED AFTER 1899. S.1985 will
also create "gun courts", create gun storage requirements and
negligence statutes.
Make no mistake! This is no longer a bill which would
outlaw a list of firearms because they look threatening. This is
an attack against all firearms owners in Massachusetts.
Your voice is important now more than ever! Let your
Representative know that banning guns is not the way to stop
crime. Call, fax and E-mail your representative today and urge
them to oppose S.1985 and tell them that this package is too
broad based and would make criminals out of ordinary citizens.
When you've done that encourage your friends, family and fellow
firearm owners to do the same.
In addition to calling your House member it is imperative
that you call Speaker Thomas Finneran at (617)722-2500. Tell him
to encourage his leadership to defeat this legislation.
If you do not know your legislators name, and have access
to the Internet, you can check
http://www.state.ma.us/legis/citytown.htm and locate him or her
according to your town / city. This site also contains
legislators E-mail, phone, and fax numbers. If you do not have
access to the Internet, you can call NRA Grassroots at (800)392-
8683 or Gun Owners Action League (GOAL) at (508)393-5333 to find
out your Representative's name and phone number. You can also
reach the House Switchboard at (617)722-2000 and ask to be
connected to your Representative.
Please cross post as necessary.
