Cherane,
Thought I would give you the latest on the eggs...then you can offer
some suggestions.
Scarlet egg....not fertile. Know what the problem is there. Since
they had only been hear a month I was surprised at getting that egg.
Great Bill eggs...both fertile, dead in the shell. They were due to
hatch on the 17th and Ipulled them today, the 26. Both of the chicks
were close to hatching, but I didn't see any pip marks.
Egg one...the chick was turning grey which suggest that I was pretty
close to the correct date, although there is not documentation of
incubation time on this species. This chick had almost absorbed the egg
totally, and should have been on the way out of the shell.
Egg two...the chick was still pink, but the yoke was mostly there. This
egg had a crack...no heartbeat.
Several months ago there was an article in Bird Talk on the Great Bill.
The species that I keep are said to be the hardest to breed. At the end
of the article there was an address to write to in the Phillipines to
get info on these birds. I sent off a letter, an envelope and a coupon
for stamps. Of course, I have heard nothing back.
There was another article by some woman in California. After three phone
calls to her, always getting her daughter or an answering machine I gave
up on her.
There is a fellow in Florida that I talked to several years back the was
nice, but he was basically where I was. He had new stock, no production.
Of course I threw his number away.
I welcome any input. Let me tell you though, an incubator is out.
