Subject: [drakelist] Just bought a T-4XC, after thoughts & update

    Well, after getting all the feedback about changing the finals to 
6146W's I have changed my mind about doing this mod for the time being.  
If someday I can't get a match set of  6JB6A's I may reconsider the 
change to 6146W's.  Gee, I wonder if I could maybe install a single 
GU-74B/4CX800A , that might just fit, hi hi.  I am going to add some DC 
brushless cooling fans to the T-4XC also.  I am currently looking into 
the pcb board for the AC-4 that Mike Bryce, WB8VGE talked about on July 
21st.  With most of the AC-4's now getting old it might be a good idea 
to upgrade the electronics in it as a maintenance precaution. 

    As far as my R-4C goes, I have decided to go with Sherwood's 3rd 
mixer mod and their power supply circuit board replacement.  I will also 
replace C100 with a .68uf tantalum capacitor and as I can I will replace 
the old carbon resistors with the newer carbon-film type.  I will also 
be changing out the Drake's first IF filter (GUF-1) with International 
Radio's 8 kHz 8 pole filter.  I also want to add a 2.1 SSB filter and a 
1.5 CW filter.  I will also be adding 1 or 2 DC brushless cooling fans.  
If I have overlooked anything important please let me know.  I'm sure 
glad that I have another radio I can use while I am working on the 
twins.  This is going to take some time and of course more money than I 
really want to spend.  But like that commercial says, "pay me now or pay 
me later".  I have a D-104 that I will be using when I get the correct 
plug, on order.  In the mean time I am doing some work on my antennas.  
I really want to thank the group for all the input, a lot of knowledge 
and experience out there.
