 Disputes between pretty much every different group and religion
 have been around forever. However, we were talking about the
 Arab/Israeli dispute. There was no Israel before 1947, not for
 nearly 2000 years. So there could not have been an Arab/Israeli
 dispute before your time. Oh, and the New Testament record is
 under Rome, which was hardly Arab.

 And much of the Old Testament involves Israel conquering Arabs.
 Oh, and Egyptians do not consider themselves Arabs.

 All they have to do is eliminate the dictators. The dictators
 spend most of their effort staying in power. Eliminate the
 dictatore, get democratically supported governments, and they
 can focus on developing high quality military, without fear of
 the military overthrowing them.

 Of course, then they won't need to divert their population by
 raising a false enemy to focus them away from the government's
 failures and abuses, so they won't need to make Israel the
 enemy.

 No dictatorship survives without an enemy. If they don't have
 one they invent one. Remove the enemy and the dictatorship will
 fall.

 That doesn't make sense. The Turks are not Arabs, so how did
 they have an empire by getting their asses kicked?

 Rome ruled a good part of the Middle east. They didn't get their
 asses kicked, they collapsed from within.

 Alexander the Great conquered much of the Middle East, and when
 he died one of his Generals took Egypt, and his line reigned
 until Caesar.

 The British and French took big parts of the Middle East.
 However, the British perfected the art of ruling a foreign
 country, play the locals against each other. Then again the
 Romans did much the same.

 It would not be a holy war, not if they didn't try to conquer,
 just kill the leaders and let another bunch take over. Sooner or
 later they would get leaders who don't want to die enough to be

 It still is. The surge did a little good in the main population
 centers, the Anbar Awakening did a lot of good in the very worst
 areas, but the surge can't last forever, and the Anbar Awakening
 is being abandoned by the Iraqi govt.

 That is the only reason to really escalate in Afghanistan.
 Pakistan is a nuclear country, if the Taliban takes Pakistan we
 have nuclear armed terrorists instantly. Than GW Bush for that.
