I usually figured it at 35%/hr. At 40% it doesn't add up, it's
too low. Which makes it too low at 35%.
The highest hourly rate, $32.83, add 40% and it's about $46/hr.
The number the auto makers give is $55/hr. If you figure in
overtime the average will go up, but not much as the benefits
don't increase on OT. That is the reason so many companies use a
lot of OT instead of hiring more people.
Which suggests the Auto makers depend a lot on OT. Establish
national health care and they may well cut back on OT, meaning
more jobs. Now, if they just take social security and medicare
off the payroll tax and put it on a sales tax, and watch the OT
drop out of sight. More jobs, lots more jobs.
