subject: IP address and Subnet mask

Hello James!
In a message James Bendall wrote to Placido Santiago:

JB> The relationship I'm not totally sure on.
There are several classes of IP addresses:
Class A : 11.x to 126.x series addresses - subnet mask 255.0.0.0
Class B : 128.x to 191.x series addresses - subnet mask 255.255.0.0
Class C : 192.x to 254.x series addresses - subnet mask 255.255.255.0
10.x addresses are reserved for private networks and are a Class A address.
You can use these series addresses as long as you're either not connected to
the Internet or are using a proxy server or similar. 127.x is the series
assigned to the loop-back number, which is used for testing.
Note that the above quoted subnet masks are "default" masks. Depending on
circumstances you can also use custom masks.
