MG> Chula Vista is so strapped for cash that they're considering closing MG> down the Nature Center refuge. They're certainly not in a position to MG> pay for extra CVPD officers to ticket illegally parked cars or pay MG> the Sheriff's department to do so. Years ago an apparently perfectly good Chevrolet sedan appeared in the parking lot behind the building I was then working in. After it had sat there for a week or so we started to wonder about it. We asked the police to check it out and they said they wouldn't because it was on private property. After a month or so I noticed that parts were vanishing off the car - tires, etc., and after another month it was nothing but scrap. The police *finally* checked the car - it had been stolen (what a surprise) and was on their list. But of course it had no remaining value, which it would have retained had the police checked on the car when we asked them to, Jeez, it would only have taken five minutes of one officer's coffee break to do it. But I'm talking Omaha here, where police response time to emergencies is best measured with a calendar, not a stopwatch. --- FleetStreet 1.19+* Origin: Bob's Boneyard, Emerson, Iowa (1:300/3) SEEN-BY: 10/1 3 11/331 34/999 120/228 123/500 128/2 187 140/1 226/0 236/150 SEEN-BY: 249/303 250/306 261/20 38 100 1381 1404 1406 1410 1418 266/1413 SEEN-BY: 280/1027 633/260 267 712/848 800/432 2222/700 2320/100 105 200 SEEN-BY: 5030/1256 @PATH: 300/3 14/5 140/1 261/38 633/260 267 |
