Have you or your friend considered approaching some of your local
high-volume mobile phone retailers?  You should be able to pick up a
trade-in model of one of the above for a reasonable price.  One local
fellow up here was flogging analogue trade-ins for between $10-$20 each
just recently, so that's the first avenue I'd be trying in your situation.
