Yup, they seem to be working fine (except for a little RFI produced).
I got a REALLY good deal on them. These two were the last ones I bought, and
I saw a fellow that was liquidating a few he had picked up as part of an
auction bid - and he had no use for any more of them. Got both of them for
the cost of the USPS ($5) plus $5 per card. I see NOW in most of my
suppliers catalogs that the same cards are going for about $60 retail.
I like it when I get a good deal like that, almost makes living
worthwhile :)

(variant is: KA9Q v911229 - was/gmh 020692 (Turbo-C v2.01 compile)
(I've also been messing with JNOS v1.11a source, but I've had a bit
or trouble getting that to compile with the BC++ v3.1 that I have)
Actually I think there WAS an integral driver for the 3C501 cards available
with the last few versions of JNOS, but I don't think it works with the
'3C5x9" (EtherLink-III) series. I asked on the 'nos-bbs' mailing list and
never got a positive reply to it. If someone is a real WHIZ! at C++
programming, they might be able to take a look at the source for the 3C501
and compare it with the specs for the '509' cards and come up with a link
that wouldn't need the packet driver taking up the added memory.
I'm just using the standard Clarkson packet driver (mentioned), loaded in the
BAT before the suite, and then just use the built-in packet driver interface
attach command (attach packet 0x60 ) on the 286, and also load
the same Clarkson (3C5X9PD.COM) driver on the 386 before I run the mailer, so
that when the BBS is called and the user exits the TELNET Door - it has
direct access to the 286 via the packet Ether connection.
I'm also using the same version NOS on my laptop (LTEs386/20) on 28.105 Mc
LSB (10 meter Amateur Band) at 300 baud. I don't have THAT LANned yet, as
there a re a few things I need to get before I invest in the Laptop LAN port
interface. I hear there WAS a docking bay available for that unit, but not
sure if they're still around. :(
I have the driver disk install archive for the EtherLink-III card series (i
think it's 3C5X9B.EXE), and if you have that - you have the packet driver, if
not, you can FREQ it here as "3CINST". Beware! the archive is ~860k, but
contains the drivers for MANY of the popular OS's. My modem is a USR v34+,
so if yours is compatable with that you MIGHT get 31,200 or better. I also
believe it's available from 3COMs' webpage and ftp server and I think they
even have a dialup BBS as well (the later of which I feel is the most
reliable route, as I had to make several attempts to get it via a browser :(

I'll be loading up Warp again as soon as I get my 486 finished (all I have
left to get is the RAM - looking for a REAL good deal on a couple 8 or 16 meg
72-pin TrueParity SIMMs). I imagine that OS/2 has built-in drivers for these
cards (and hopefully my SMC8013WC's as well), and I didn't see any support
for OS/2 in the driver pack I got. (named above)
I'll be happy to elaborate... And I have a bit in this message, but if you
want to hear more I'll put some more in another message :) In what respect
or on what would you like a more detailed description ?

I don't have an ISP any more either ... I heard of one that is
offering dialup ISDN at the same price as the analog, and I'm saving up for
that, as they only go on a yearly basis (~$85/yr) [www.jps.net]
I could probably split the file up into 10 or 12 sections and MIME
it via email through the FidoGate, but I've never had much luck in
getting those type of transfers to recombine on the receiving end :(
If I were to send the file(s) to 1:270/615, would you get them ?
Or, as mentioned above, you can FREQ them from me (1:2003/0)...
