If your FAX machine has the capability of
deciphering distinctive ring, it is the MOST
reliable way of line-sharing a voice and FAX number.
(CNG-tone recognition is very reliable--much more so
than it was 5 or 6 years ago--but tones can very and
recognition is sometimes a problem for certain
        machines and devices.)
There are accessory devices that will decipher the
distinctive ring, as well, and send the call to the
FAX machine or ring your phones. Again, the
        accuracy is 100-percent.
