   I might add, Joe, that grass seed needs light to germinate, and a
   thick or dense mulch will hinder germination. But, given the ease
   with which an unexpectedly hot sun can fry tiny sprigs almost before
    you can see them, I'd rather use scattered wood chips than nothing.
