 Nobody really knows as not many (except civil servants and tariff
 workers) know how much their collegues earn. One has to sell oneself
 for what one thinks one is worth over here.

 At least half of the Germans live in rented property (i.e. a house
 or an apartment) but those who own houses tend to live alone with
 their families (sometimes renting out part of a large house to a
 student etc.).
